Sometimes I just have to make something with adorable critters and these critters in the Chill Holiday by My Favorite Things were just too cute to pass up!
To start, I chose three stamps that I thought went well together, then did a rough arrangement on a scrap piece of paper. Once I knew what stamp would be in front, I stamped that one (in this case, the bear with two presents) with Memento black onyx ink (my favorite to use when I will be doing alcohol ink coloring) onto an A2 Bristol paper panel I also stamped the same image onto a piece of masking paper.
I cut out this first critter and presents from the masking paper, and laid it over the stamped image on the Bristol paper panel. This allowed me to stamp the next two images (another bear with gift and the sled) without messing up the first stamping. I also stamped these two additional images onto masking paper and cut them out, then covered all the stamped images, along with a strip of masking paper added at the horizon line where the snow meets the sky.
With all the parts covered that I didn’t want to get distress ink on, I blended Broken China ink over the sky area. Next, I added Chipped Sapphire to darken the sky, leaving a lighter area around the critters. To finish the sky, a bit of Black Soot distress ink was added to the very edges of the sky.
Now comes the big reveal! I peeled off the masking paper and VIOLA! My pristinely white critters were revealed and ready to color. They were colored with a few Copic alcohol markers. The colors used were:
• Bears – C00, C1, C2, W1, C7, R20
• Scarves – YG03, R29, R32, Bg45, Bg49
• Gifts – YG03, YG17, R32, R29, G94, B000, 91, BGo1, R32, R29
• Sled – E97, E25
Once the coloring was done, a tiny bit was trimmed off the edges, a sentiment was stamped with Lobster red ink, then mounted onto an A2 Hibiscus red card stock card base.
For my finishing touches, I added falling snow and a few stars with a white gel pen! ♥
