There’s No Place Like Home

There’s No Place Like Home

Hi Creative Friends,

Today I am sharing two card designs with home in mind. I was totally smitten by the new Spring Cottage Village die set by Honey Bee Stamps. It has all the pieces to make three different charming houses with all the trimmings. I loved using this set. I know it won’t be too long before I make another!

Let’s jump in and get started with the tall stately home with the adorable picket fence. For the base, I used a 4″x5.25″ sized white card stock panel and an A2 white cardstock card base.

Next, using the same cardstock, I cut out all the pieces to the house. The pieces for all three of the houses in this set are neatly arranged so it is easy to know what goes with what! I also cut out a few shrubs, the tree, and a couple of picket fence pieces.

For the coloring, I used an ink dauber. Some of the pieces are small so the ink dauber was perfect for these small places.

I started by coloring the main part of the house with Weathered Wood distress ink. The roof was colored with Lost Shadow distress ink. I also colored the greenery with Crushed Olive and Rustic Wilderness distress ink.

Before assembling this charming home, I added a few clouds to the white cardstock panel. I used Peacock Feathers and the MFT Micro Clouds stencil. An ink dauber worked great here too.

Now I was ready to assemble the home and surroundings onto the panel. It was just a matter of putting the pieces together and adding a small bit of glue. I did add some foam squares to the back of the house for depth and a few dots of green grass using Copic alcohol marker. And, I couldn’t resist adding a few flowers to the window boxes by using a tiny hole punch (check out the supply list) and colored paper.

I searched for the perfect sentiment but couldn’t find what I was looking for so I hand-wrote it a the bottom. Then, the panel was backed with foam, then mounted onto my white card base.

With the first card done, let’s jump into the second card design. As I mentioned, there are three houses in this set so I had to make at least another house. I used the same size panels (only landscape style this time) and followed the same steps as above, including clouds in the sky. There were a few changes and here they are.

For this card design, I used Saltwater Taffy distress ink for the main house and Lost Shadow for the gray bits. The door was colored with Candied Apple distress ink with a gray accent on the panels of the door. I just used a soft lead pencil for that. Instead of the picket fence, I used the stone fence but the same greenery.

When the house and surroundings were assembled onto the panel, I added a few green dots for the grass here too.

For the sentiment, I found a great one in the Papertrey Ink Larger than Life: Mom stamp set. I used Versafine Black Onyx ink to get a crisp impression. Then, the best find was two tiny hearts that I had laying on my desk from who-knows-what project. I colored them with a red marker and mounted them.

With the panel done, a foam backing was added and mounted to my card base.

That completes my two card designs for today. I had loads of fun making these tiny houses. Next time, I think I will use the Honey Bee Stamps Cottage Countryside dies for an extended scene. Check out this awesome die set here.

Thanks for joining me today for another paper adventure. I am so glad you came along! See you next time!
