HI Friends,
Today I am featuring another Flora & Fauna stamp set, Driving To The Holidays. I grew up with a VW always in my family’s driveway so I couldn’t resist the cute Volkswagon and all its accessories. With 10 kids in the family, my father thought this was the best car ever! It was easy on gas and you couldn’t go too fast!
This card happens to be a birthday card for a VW owner but it would also be perfect to dress up with all the holiday accessories!
I started out stamping the VW and green package onto Neenah Solar White cardstock. Since my friend is a gem and jewelry appraiser, he is proud of his tanzanite gem colored car (both blue and purple) so I had to try to get that color. To do this I stamped it first with dark blue, then with a dark purple, then blue again (this is where a stamp positioning tool like the MISTI or Tim Holtz Stamp Platform really comes in handy). This technique is an easy way to extend your ink color palette without adding additional colors.
The pictures really don’t do it justice but it turned out just the way I wanted it! The Memento ‘Dew Drops’ inks were perfect for this (see in supply list below). Then, I sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat set it.
The next logical color for this gem is his favorite gemstone, peridot. Peridot is yellow and green so I followed the same stamping procedure using yellow and green inks. I did not heat emboss it, instead, I slathered clear Wink of Stella on two of the opposing square sections of the package.
The other ‘package’ is just a short strip of diagonally striped purple and white paper, but there is a stamp in this set that allows you to stamp out the diagonal piece if you don’t have any striped paper around.
To keep the card simple, I decided on a small rectangle where I added green (peridot) stars using light green Viva Decor modellier creme (a super smooth, whip cream-like texture paste) and a star stencil. When the texture paste was dry, starting at the bottom, I blended Cracked Pistachio distress oxide ink, Twisted Citron distress oxide ink in the middle and finally Squeezed Lemonade distress ink at the top.
For the sentiment, I stamped ‘beep, beep’ onto black cardstock using Versamark ink, sprinkled white embossing powder and heat set.
The last step is a quick assembly. Starting with a white cardstock card base, I added a white panel that was cut from Whimsy Hand Stitched Rectangles on top of the card base, then centered the green star rectangle and attached with foam tape. The VW was mounted with a double layer of foam tape and the gifts were attached with a single layer of foam tape. For the final touch, silver thread was tied around the green package and tied with a silver thread bow!
There you have it… a perfect card for a VW owner!
