Cozy Time

Cozy Time

Hi Creative Friends,

Today we are sharing a lovely little card that uses the Cozy Time stamp set by Simply Graphic. I fell in love with the adorable kitty cat and the wicker chair. It looks so tranquil… and inviting! I made me want to curl up with my sweet cat and read a good book.

I began by mocking up my scene by stamping the chair, books, and cat on a piece of copy paper, arranged the way I wanted the scene to look, and not caring about overlapping the stamps. By doing this first, I was able to use this mocked-up panel by placing it in my stamp positioner, then placing the cat stamp over top and adhering to the door.

Once the cat was in the perfect place, I removed the mocked-up panel and replaced it with a cold-pressed watercolor panel.  I stamped the cat with Versafine Black Onyx ink, then stamped another cat onto a scrap of masking paper, fussy-cut it out, and placed it over the stamped cat.

Next, I removed the cat stamp from the door of my stamp positioner and replaced it with the chair stamp. With the mask over the cat, I stamped the chair with the same ink. When all the detail of the chair was stamped, I removed the mask from the cat and VIOLA! I had my little cat asleep in the chair. To finish the scene, I stamped the books and sentiment, which all included in this awesome stamp set.

Now I was able to jump into my water coloring. Using a few Papertrey Ink inks for the color (see below in supply list) and a small brush, I colored one section at a time until the chair, cat, and books were finished.

To complete the picture, I roughly painted free-hand stripes on the wall with Blueberry Sky ink and a little bit of a watery solution of Tru Black ink for the floor.

While the panel was drying, I made a white card base and added a panel of Ocean Tides card stock to cover the front. Next, I added a slightly smaller panel of Alexandra Renke’s Mud Grid paper.

When the watercolor panel was dry, I trimmed out the panel with Penny Black’s Zig Zag Stackers and added a foam panel on the back to pop it up. It was placed over the top of the Mud Grid paper to finish the card.

As a catch-up, keep your eyes peeled for the next shipment of Simply Graphic. It will be arriving soon!

  1. I like your cozy, calming scene that you have created. Your shadows and lines warm up the whole room. I’m partial to cats anyway since I have two of my own.
