Cut The Cake

Cut The Cake

Hi Creative Friends,

Want to create cake good enough to eat? You can do it fast and easy with the super fun Concord & 9th Cut The Cake stamp/die/stencil set. This set is well thought out and easy to use!

I started out with an A2 white card stock card base and a Tidepool card stock panel (Robin’s Egg works great too) to mount onto the front,

My next layer was a bristol paper A2-sized panel. I love to use bristol paper for ink blending for its smooth, slick surface. The ink goes on beautifully!

So… using spun Sugar distress ink, I ink blended the whole panel, then added Saltwater Taffy distress ink, making the edges a little darker and the bottom the darkest.

One of the stencils in the stencil set has the sentiment ‘Yay! Happy Birthday” It fit perfectly on my ink-blended panel and has handy registration marks in the corners so you  line it up straight. I  used Concord & 9th white ink and an ink dauber to stencil the sentiment all the way down the panel.  I went over the sentiment with the ink several times to get a nice layer of white ink on the paper. When dry, I added it to the front of my card base.

On to making the cake, using bristol paper again, I cut out the cake pieces and candles. While the pieces were still intact on the panel, I mounted the whole thing in my stamp positioner. Then, using the numbered stencil set again, I colored the cake by using each stencil in sequence. I used Watermelon, Sprout, Tidepool, and Briar Rose inks (see supply list). Since I love chocolate cake, I used Nutmeg ink to color the interior of the cake.

Hint: If you are careful to line up the cake pieces perfectly with the stencil, the cake will magically turn out perfect too!

The cake stand was next. I chose to ink blend my cake stand pieces using Tidepool but if you didn’t want to do any ink blending, you could easily cut it out of colored card stock.

Now it was time to assemble. Using foam squares, I mounted the cake stand, then the cake on top. The candles were added.

For the sentiment, I cut out a banner from the die set, then stamped one of the sentiments from the stamp set… and VIOLA! my birthday card is done!

What a fun card this was to make and I have another birthday card ready to send!
