Glimmering Peonies

Hi Creative Friends,

Today I have a card design to share with you that features beautiful peony flowers in a stunning floral display. It is the Glimmering Peonies by Spellbinders.

You can hot-foil this floral spray in any color you like and get different looks just by varying the cardstock and the hot-foil color. For a super fast card, just hot-foil on colored cardstock. Or, you can hot-foil and color it using your favorite medium. I chose to watercolor mine so I used hot-pressed watercolor paper.

This floral hot-foil plate is gorgeous and as I said, you can easily hot-foil it, creating a beautiful card front all by itself – without doing anything else but I chose to use hot-pressed watercolor paper and gold hot-foil the design using the Spellbinders Glimmer system (see supply list).

From there, I used a few distress inks to color it. I reached for a few of my favorites: Festive Berries, Picked Raspberry, and Wild Honey. The leaves were painted using first Crushed Olive, then Peeled Paint, and a dash of Pine Needles.

There is a lot of intricate design to this floral display, so I took my time and had fun painting the flowers and leaves.

When the painting was done, I trimmed the panel and added a thin gold foil strip on the long side. A wider strip of watercolor paper was mounted alongside the foil. To create the strip, I used a long scrap of watercolor paper and smooched color here and there, using the same three colors I used for the flowers. I used the matching reinkers to achieve a rich and intense color.

Now that the whole panel was assembled, I mounted it onto a cream cardstock card base.

Many sentiments would work perfectly with this floral display and I tried lots. I finally settled on using the “Thinking Of You” die in the Heartfelt Blossoms die by Concord & 9th. I cut out the words using a piece of Candy Hearts cardstock and cut out the shadow using a stout piece of vellum (in the supply list below).

The sentiment was mounted using a spot of glue. That finished my card design.
