Rise and Shine

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing an adorable little mouse motoring along on a lily pad… how cute is that? It is one of Penny Black’s many delightful little creatures! This one is from the Resilient stamp and die set.

This cute little mouse was stamped with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink onto white watercolor paper, then painted with a few distress reinkers. I used Crushed Olive, Rustic Wilderness, and a dash of Peacock Feathers for the lily pad. The mouse was colored with Pumice Stone, with a touch of Black Soot for shading, and Saltwater Taffy for the more tender parts. The butterfly was painted with Mustard Seed, a little Saltwater Taffy, and Seedless Preserves. When dry, it was cut out using the matching die set but with the water part trimmed off.

For the card base, I started with a 6.5″x4.5″ white cardstock panel and another panel 5.5″x3.5″. Using the smaller panel, I painted on a swirl of water using Broken China, Uncharted Mariner, Tumbled Glass, and a touch of Crushed Olive. You must be thinking, “She painted on white cardstock and not watercolor paper?” I was surprised too. I tried it on a lark, and it worked surprisingly well, but I was careful not to use much water. When dry, I used a small ink dauber to add a little Tumbled Glass to blend it out and more Tumbled Glass for the sky area. Finally, a few flicks of my brush filled with Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleedproof white ink were added for the water spraying up.

My little mouse and butterfly were mounted using foam squares onto the smaller panel. A slightly larger Pool blue panel was added to the back, then foam to pop it up.

The sentiment, from the Positivity stamp and die set by Penny Black, was stamped with Nocturne ink, then the whole assembly was applied to the top of the larger panel cut earlier.

And there we have it; our little mouse is ready to hopefully delight our happy recipient… and you too!
