Say Happy Birthday with Critters

Hi Creative Friends,

Today I am having a little birthday fun with adorable critters. I chose a couple of my favorites. One from the Cheerful Critters by Penny Black and the other from My Favorite Things Friends stamp set. I don’t think you can ever have enough birthday cards at the ready and I like to have a variety of styles of birthday cards so that I can find just the right one to suit my birthday recipient.

Each of these cards is ultra simple. I wanted the critter to be the main character with a simple funny sentiment.

So, I started out by stamping each of the critters onto Neenah white card stock using an alcohol-friendly ink like Lawn Fawn Jet Black Premium ink, then did a little coloring with Copic markers. I have listed the colors below.

Bear: W1, W3, C0, C2. R20
Hedgehog: W1, W2. E09, E51, R01. R20   Hat: BG34, BG45, YG03, G94

When finished, I cut out the bear using the matching dies and fussy-cut out the hedgie with detail scissors. At the same time, I cut out a couple of balloons using one of my favorite balloon die sets, Lawn Fawn Party Balloons (see supply list below). By the way, a balloon reflection was added using the awesome Kuretake Zip Brush White pen.

I wanted a ‘punny’ sentiment for each of these card designs but I couldn’t find just the one I was looking for.  So I made my own. I found that most home printers can handle 80lb. card stock so I printed the sentiments by typing in the sentiments, positioned them just right on the page, printed, then cut out two panels 4″x5.25″. The panels were then backed foam for a little dimension.

Next, I made two A2 white cardstock card bases, then mounted the printed panels on top. The critters were mounted with foam squares, along with the balloon. I cut a sliver of black paper for the balloon string to complete the picture!
