Oh, what a lucky day it is today! We get to share another gorgeous card by Heather Telford of Bit & Pieces blog. Heather is an amazingly talented watercolorist and card maker. We, at The Foiled Fox, are always in awe of her beautiful work.
So, sit back and feast your eyes on this card made with the Tranquil stamp by Penny Black. By the way, if you haven’t yet had a chance to learn about Heather personally, take a look at below.
I am so happy to be back as a guest of the Foiled Fox team. Last time I shared a peerless watercolor card, the first one I had done in fact. I have another one for you today, this time a winter scene. The Penny Black stamp, ‘Tranquil’ is a complete scene in itself. It is possible to create a landscape scene by inking sections of the stamp in different colours or, as I have done, stamp in black to create a silhouette then paint the sky and foreground in colors of your choice.
I stamped the scene in Versafine onyx black ink, using a MISTI to re-stamp and ensure a solid black image. Once it was totally dry I positioned a circle mask in the top right corner to create a moon image. I punched my mask out of painter’s tape but masking film would also work; the mask needs to be waterproof and removable. With the mask in place, I started painting the sky above the black line of the horizon. I used blues from the peerless palette to create a lighter area around the moon and darker blue beyond that. I added some gray in the top left corner. I used the same blue to paint over the foreground snow keeping it darker near the posts and tree base but lighter where the moon would be shining. To add a little interest I painted a few dashes of other colours in the sky and snow then let it all dry.
At this point, I wanted a few snowy highlights so I used Dr. Ph Martin’s bleed proof white paint on some of the branches and the fence posts. I removed the circle mask to reveal the moon then sponged a little Danube blue memento ink inside it so it wasn’t such a stark white. To complete the card I stamped a sentiment from ‘Festive Snippets’, matted the panel in black card stock and attached to a white card base.
