H Creative Friends,
Today I am sharing a wintery card with quaint houses in a row. I fell in love with Penny Black’s Christmas Town stamp. It creates a lovely scene!
I had seen Mimi Jourdain‘s version. It was so lovely, I had to create my own so let’s get started.
I began with a 5″x 7 ” hot-pressed watercolor panel and Christmas Town stamp mounted in my stamp positioner. I inked the top part of the houses with Faded Jeans, then Tea Dye and Antique Linen distress inks. Using a damp brush, I blended the ink just enough to smooth out the ink but not enough to disturb the detail. I always keep the stamp in my stamp positioner while I work so I can reink and stamp areas to add more crispness to the detail if necessary.
The tiny windows in the houses were colored with Faded Jeans and the door was painted with Fired Brick distress ink. Garland and wreaths hang on the windows and potted trees are outside. These were painted with Rustic Wilderness.
When the houses were done, I stamped an image of the stamp onto masking paper and cut out the outline. Then, I placed the mask over the houses so I could stamp the evergreen trees (Rising stamp) in the background. They were inked and stamped using Evergreen Bough and Faded Jeans.
The sky was next. I used a loose mixture of Faded Jeans and a little Tea Dye. When dry, I blended on a little Chipped Sapphire.
With the background evergreens done, I added bare winter trees in front by positioning one of the trees from the Woodsy stamp set by Penny Black. They were inked and stamped with Versafine Black Onyx ink, then the trunks were colored in with a black Tombow pen,
To finish my scene, I added some shading for the snow-covered ground using Chipped Sapphire and Faded Jeans distress ink, then a little white Dr. Ph. Martin Bleedproof ink.
I couldn’t resist adding a little evergreen tree from the Prancers stamp set in front of two houses. I used Evergreen Bough and Faded Jeans.
If you look closely, I splattered the whole scene with white ink for the falling snow.
The panel was mounted onto an Alabaster card stock card base when all was dry.
Thanks for joining me today. I hope to see you next time! ♥
