Hello friends,
Here is a fun card to make for the cat lover or “just because” (the best kind). These Cat-itude cats make an adorable card with ‘pawesome’ sentiments.
The size of this card is 5.5″ x 5.5″ square. I really like this size. It uses a piece of 8.5″ x 11″ piece of Neenah card stock very nicely. This card turns out to be a little bigger than standard A2 card. It just seems that if you are going to so much effort, the card should be a little bigger to make a little bigger presentation.
If you want to create your own “Pawesome” card, here are the steps for this card.
Let’s get all the papers and stamps needed for the project. It is pretty simple since it only uses one stamp set.
Preparing the papers needed.
- One piece of 8.5″ x 11″ piece of Neenah white card stock cut to 5.5″ x 11, scored at 5.5″ on the long side
- Prepare one piece of 5.25″ x 5.25″, one piece of 5.25″ x 2.625″ of Neenah white card stock and a scrap piece of the same card stock for the cats and water bowl.
- Have ready one piece of 5.25″ x 2.625″ of watercolor paper
- 2 strips of colored paper (1/2 inch by 5.25″), with the edge cut with a wavy scissor cutter.
Now for the stamping:
- To begin, I like to get all the stamping done….so get your Cat-itude stamp set by My Favorite Things ready and use a permanent black ink. I used Black Archival ink pad.
- Then, stamp on the scrap of white card stock (I used Neenah 100lb. solar white) 3 of your favorite cats and the bowl. (I also stamped the bowl a second time so I could cut out extra little fish)
- Stamp the 5.25″ x 2.625″ piece of Neenah card stock with the sentiment of your choosing. I loved the “you’re kinds pawesome”. It is fun and playful – like the kitty cats.
- Next, using the 5.25″ x 2.625″ of watercolor paper, stamp any or all of the fish in any pattern you like.
- Then, fill in the spaces by stamping the little flower stamp in the set
Coloring time:
- Start with the watercolor paper with the fish and flowers stamped on it. Watercolor the fish and flowers with any colors that you like – dry the fish and flowers
- Then, apply clean water everywhere you want the ‘water’ to be, try not to re-wet the fish and flowers so the color doesn’t bleed into it. Now, add your favorite blue for the water – I like to ‘pounce’ watercolor into the water and letting it flow naturally. I like the wet-on-wet technique for the water. This method allows for the color to flow everywhere there is water and it looks natural and flowing. When you are happy with your coloring, set aside to dry
- Next, color the cats and water bowl with Copic markers. Color the extra fish too if you are using them.
Cutting:
- Cut out all the cats and water bowl with the matching die set or fussy cut them. I found it quick and easy to just fussy cut them out.
- Add foam tape to the back of the cats and bowl.
Assembly:
- Mount the water color paper with the fishes onto the top half of the 5.25″ x 5.25″ piece of white card stock you have prepared. I like to adhere them with double stick adhesive tape.
- Adhere the two strips of wavy edged colored card stock onto the bottom of the fish stamped watercolor paper – overlap them with the idea of looking like waves and then,
- Mount the white piece of 5.25″ x 2.625″ (with sentiment stamped on it) over the top of the edge of the wavy paper and butting up against the fish stamped watercolor paper.
- Adfix (with the foam tape) the cats and bowl to your pleasing.
- Mount this whole piece onto the 5.5″ x 5.5″ card base.
Finishing touches:
- It is hard to see but for added interest, I adding ‘bubbles’ coming from each fish with clear IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher. I also covered the the ‘water’ in the bowl with the same.
- Added clear Wink of Stella to the fish scales and flowers
- applied a few tiny seguin sprinkles near the water and little fishes on the ground
Yay! It’s done
