Boo! Alcohol Ink Happy Halloween Card

Boo! Alcohol Ink Happy Halloween Card

Hello Friends!

It is officially Halloween time!  To celebrate, I am featuring a scary, fun Halloween project. And the added bonus is this project also gives you another idea on how to use alcohol inks as a background, just like was demonstrated in last week’s video (hey, didn’t see it, then click here).

This card is a simple card but the background makes it seem like so much more. I started with Yupo or Alcohol Ink paper and began at the bottom of the panel adding horizontal stripes of color. I used Teakwood and Rust first, then added a tiny stripe of Pitch Black… remember these inks spread so a little goes a long way. As I worked my way up the paper, I added Purple Twilight and Sunset Orange with little bits of Stonewash.

As I worked my way up the paper, I added Purple Twilight and Sunset Orange with little bits of Stonewash, Teakwood and Rust to get the desired dark, troubled sky, being careful to leave a circle in the center for the Sunshine Yellow moon.

One of the great things about alcohol inks is its abstract nature so… let it go with the flow!

With the background complete, two Carta Bella Happy Halloween trees and the Impression Obsession Boo! Bat were cut from purple Jelly Bean cardstock. The sign was cut from white cardstock with an orange Circus Peanut cardstock mounted on the back.

One tree was mounted on the other with a glue pen to give depth, then the bat and tree were smudged with a blending tool and Delicata Black Shimmer ink, letting only bits of purple showing through.

I didn’t have a pumpkin stamp or die handy, so luckily they aren’t too challenging to draw!  S0, with a scrap of white cardstock, I sketched in pencil, 3 different sized pumpkins and colored them with Copic Markers Y08, Y38, YR07, G03, G43. To add a little more definition, I used a #01 Zig Mangaka pen.

The card was assembled by starting with a purple Jelly Bean card base. Then I added a slightly smaller panel of yellow Marshmallow Chick cardstock with the edges smudged randomly with Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey and Seedless Preserves oxide inks, then splattered with water using a paintbrush for a mottled look. The panel then was added to the front of the card base.

The tree was glued on using a glue pen and the bat with its sign was attached with foam tape.  The eyes were filled with Nuvo Gloss Red Berry crystal drops and the pumpkins were positioned in place with foam tape. The final touch was to add tiny clear crystal gems to add sparkle to the night sky.

Thank you so much for visiting today. I will see you again real soon!

Loved the video tutorial…this BOO background is one of the best for Halloween cards. I always think of flowers when I use alcohol inks…you have expanded my imagination outside my box! 😀
