Hi Creative Friends,

Today I have another Papertrey Ink card design for you. In their last release, there was a myriad of butterflies to choose from. The Build-A-Butterfly and its matching stencil set really caught my eye!

I often don’t have a preconceived notion of what my card design will look like. When this happens, I dive into creating the main subject and hope I’ll have a burst of inspiration! This is how I started this design. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Using Bristol paper, I cut out all the pieces in the Build-A-Butterfly set and a few extra leaves and flowers. From there, I used my ink daubers and colored the pieces. Here is a guide.

Flowers: Blueberry, Fig, Dragonfruit
Leaves: Lemongrass, Pistachio, Evergreen
Butterfly: Lakefront, Oceanside – then using one of the butterfly stencils I used: Fig, Dragonfruit, Oceanside

After ink-blending the pieces, I chose a Blue Spruce A2-cardstock card base and a matching panel and adhered the panel to the front of the card base.

To give the flowers and leaves a little lift, I cut out a white card stock frame using the Penny Black Frame It dies. The frame was added to the front with foam tape.

Next was the best part, arranging and attaching the leaves and flowers with foam tape, and adding the butterfly with its cut-out veining on top.

To finish, I stamped, cut out, and added the sentiment from the You’re So Extra stamp and die set by Honey Bee Stamps. For a little extra pizazz, I added gold drops to the center of each hydrangea.

And there you have, our project for today. I think butterflies are a beautiful motif for a card design, and I am pleased with this one… I hope you are too!!
