Big and bold Birthday Cupcake

Big and bold Birthday Cupcake

Hi Everyone,

It is time to celebrate with a big and bold birthday cupcake made with the Citrus-Berry Cupcake stamp by Colorado Craft Company. Even if you don’t have the real thing, a colorful card will certainly brighten the day.

This stamp set features a giant cupcake with frosting piled high and topped with a juicy orange slice and berry. It is the star of the show… so let’s start with the cupcake.

I stamped the cupcake onto a piece of Neenah white card stock using an alcohol ink-friendly ink like Memento Tuxedo Black. I then started work on coloring all the various parts. Here is a guide to the colors of Copic markers I used.

When the cupcake was completely colored, I fussy cut it out very close to the black outline, then set it aside while I worked on the background.

Starting with a bristol card panel and a number 8 brush, I first smooched a few distress inks onto my glass work surface. I used Wild Honey, Festive Berries, Worn Lipstick, and Peacock Feathers. I loosened the inks with a little water then splattered the different colors until I got a confetti-like background.

When the splatters were dry, I lightly blended on Peacock Feathers distress ink at the bottom, darker at first, then lightening the pressure until I got to about 1/3 of the way up the panel. Next, I added Worn Lipstick distress ink the same way and stopped about 2/3’s of the way up to the top so that the top third of the background was still just white.

When the background was dry, I mounted it onto a same-sized white card base, then added the cupcake with some foam tape so it popped up a bit. For the sentiment, I cut out the word “party” using a small piece of Candy Necklace card stock, then colored it with Copic markers (BG15, BG45, BG18) to create an ombre color effect.

I cut out another white ‘party’ word and stacked and glued the ombre and white one together to give it more oomph! The “Let’s” was stamped using Versafine Black Onyx ink, my favorite to get a crisp, black impression, onto a strip of white cardstock! The ‘Let’s Party” was mounted with a little foam tape.

For the final touch, I added a little Twinkle Dust with some glue onto the edges of the frosting, then a few clear sequins, and finally slathered on IrRESISTible Pico Clear Embellisher onto the berry and orange slice to make it look extra juicy!
