Hi Creative Friends,
It’s February so Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! That means I have to get a move on making my Valentine’s cards. So, for my first Valentine’s card this year I created a wagon loaded down with loving hearts.
I started with a white card base and a panel of Berry Sorbet Bitty Big polka dots on top (check out the supply list below for all the goodies used). I made the panel slightly smaller so to reveal a tiny border of white from the card base. With the base done, I set it aside so I could work on the main panel.
To begin with the main attraction, the wagon, I got out my Holiday wagon dies and cut out 3 each of the wagon pieces. Next, using the coordinating stamp set, I stamped one set of the wagon cutouts. I used Hawaiian Shores and Weathervane to color the pieces. Once all the pieces were stamped, I stacked and glued the remaining 2 sets to the back of each wagon piece. This method of stacking and gluing pieces together is a great way to pop up any element that has intricate pieces like the wagon. It creates dimension without having to tediously add tiny bits of foam to the back.
Next, I started on the hearts. The Loads of Love and With Love stamp and dies were perfect for this. They contain a treasure trove of hearts and other Valentine’s motifs. But, of course, you can use whatever heart stamp and dies you have on hand.
I used a few of my favorite heart ink colors, like Pale Peony, Hibiscus Burst, Berry Sorbet, Pure Poppy, and Autumn Rose. Using these colors, I was able to match and mix and shade the hearts, as well as add a few stamped embellishments like stripes and dots. There is also a heart balloon stamp and die in the Loads of Love set. Included are a few tiny sentiments you can stamp in the balloon. I chose one and stamped and white heat embossed it.
With the wagon and hearts done, I cut out a Skinny Heart frame from white cardstock and used the inside piece for my main background panel to mount my wagon and hearts. But first I wanted to stamp my sentiment and a decorative line for my wagon to rest on. In the With Love stamp set, there are a few large sentiments. I used one of them to stamp at the bottom of the panel. I used True Black ink and then Tropical Teal for the decorative line.
I had one more element to make before arranging and assembly. I cut out two swags of tassel garland from white card stock (the stamp and die are included in the Loads of Love set). I wanted the swags to be colorful so I found the best way to make this happen was to use my Karin markers to color each tassel separately, then stamp. It worked swimmingly!
It was time to assemble. I arranged and glued the wagon pieces to the panel, then stuffed it with all of the colorful hearts made earlier. To complete the picture, I added the garland and heart balloon.
YAY! my festive Valentine’s card is done… thank you for joining me. I hope to see you next time! ♥
