Hi Creative Friends,
Today I am sharing a beautiful spray of flowers featured in the Winsomely stamp and die set by Penny Black. I especially picked this stamp for its multitude of flowers and buds. That way, I could paint with a variety of colors!
I couldn’t wait to start painting the flowers. So with a piece of hot-pressed watercolor paper and the stamp mounted into my stamp positioner, I stamped the bouquet with Versafine Black Onyx ink. After the ink was good and dry, I started painting using a myriad distress reinkers.
If you don’t have the reinkers – no worries. You can use the distress ink pads. But when I can, I use reinkers. Their vibrant colors are perfect when you want deeper colors. Another bonus is that they are so concentrated in color that you only need a tiny drop of ink for each color.
Here is a guide to the colors I used:
Purple flower: Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, Uncharted Mariner
Rose Pink flower: Saltwater Taffy, Picked Raspberry, and a dash of Wild Honey and Seedless Preserves
Coral flower: Abandoned Coral, Wild Honey, and a hint of Picked Raspberry
Yellow flower: Wild Honey and Abandoned Coral
Leaves: Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, and bits of Evergreen Bough and Forest Moss
When all the painting was done and dry, I cut out the bouquet using the coordinating die, and then set it aside.
The background was next. I couldn’t find a suitable piece of colored cardstock so I made my own. Using a bristol paper (4.5×6″) panel, I blended Picked Raspberry, and then Villainous Potion onto the panel. I added Seedless Preserve and Picked Raspberry over the top until I reached a color I liked.
I very lightly spritzed the paper using the Spellbinders Mister. I held the paper away a distance to get a very fine mist of water, dabbed the water off, and then embossed it with the Spellbinders Leafy 3D embossing folder. The fine mist gave the slightly mottled look I was after. Also, the mist was just enough to provide a little give to the paper, perfect when using an embossing folder. The leafy background panel was mounted onto a white cardstock card base.
To give the flowers an extra ‘pop’, I cut an elongated hexagon from white card stock – yes, it was hand-cut! It was super easy to do! Then, using the bone folder, a scoreboard, and the back side of the hexagon, I scored a line 1/4″ around all sides.
Next, the hexagon and bouquet were mounted using foam squares.
Lastly, I created a sentiment using Yana’s Sentiments by Spellbinders.
