Delicate Dragonfly Amidst Flowers

Delicate Dragonfly Amidst Flowers

Hi Creative Friends,

Here is a sneak peek at the brand-new collection from the fabulous Alexandra Renke. Their flowers and other designs are so intricate and delicate that they give a very special accent to any of your projects. We love their artistic flair, whether it be with their papers, dies, stamps, or stencils.

This card design was made for my daughter’s birthday. She loves lots of white space with a feminine touch. This design is just for her, but we wanted to give you a peek at what is in store in our next video this week… so stay tuned!

This card design uses a few of Alexandra Renke’s dies and stencil. So, to get started, I nested two circle dies from the Hero Arts Circle Infinity die set and cut out a circle wreath.

Next, I cut out a few flower sets, one set of leaves, and one dragonfly from white cardstock, plus a set of small wings for the dragonfly from a piece of stout (48lb.) vellum.

The leaves were gently colored first with Crushed Olive distress ink using an ink dauber, then shaded with Peeled Paint. The dragonfly was colored with Shaded Lilac distress ink and then assembled.

Hint: I cut out two of the bodies, then stacked and glued them together to give the dragonfly some strength.

I trimmed a 4.25″x4.25″ piece of white cardstock using my trusty deckle scissors, then stenciled on a spray of leaves using the new Alexandra Renke Leaf Shapes stencil and a small amount of opaque texture paste that I tinted with a little Crushed Olive ink.

Hint: smooch a little ink on your work surface, along with a small amount of paste, and mix to get the desired result.

A 5.25″x5.25″ (when folded) white cardstock card base was made. The deckled panel was backed with foam to pop it up, and then mounted on top of the card base.

The circle wreath was mounted next. The flowers were next to arrange and mount. I used a small 1/2 foam squares to give the blossoms a lift and the stems were trimmed.

The leaves were tucked around the circle and mounted with a small foam square.

Finally, the sweet dragonfly was mounted using 1/2 of a foam square.

I toyed with adding a tiny sentiment using the new Happy Birthday stamp set by Renke (a wonderful stamp set – see below), but in the end, I couldn’t bear to interrupt the delicateness of the design.

I hope you enjoyed this project and will join me this week with a look at all the wonderful items from Alexandra Renke!
