Make A Splash… doesn’t that sound refreshing? Especially since the West, our part of the country is experiencing a heat wave right now! I would love to join this sweet girl elephant at her day on the beach.

This whimsical card was created using the Neat & Tangled Beach Day stamp and die set. It has an adorable elephant and hippo, plus other accessories that are perfect for the beach. And, let’s not forget the fabulous new stencil, Rice Paddies.
To start, using a piece of watercolor paper, the Rice Paddies stencil was inked with Versamark ink, placed over the paper and run through my die cutting machine. This creates an impression, plus applies the ink in one swift move. The paper was then sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat set. So, now everywhere the embossed pattern is it will resist the watercolors that I applied next. To help with the flow of colors, I added a thin layer of clear, clean water to the paper, then added the blues, greens, and browns for the sand.
In thinking about my scene, I thought it had to have the sun resting on the water so I added some of the yellow ‘on the water’ for the sun’s reflection.
To finish the background, I stamped the sun on white card stock and colored it with Copic markers (see Copic guide below) and added it to a narrow strip of card stock that where I had added clouds using the Cloud stencil by My Favorite Things and Tumbled Glass distress ink.
The last step for the background was to add some white splashes of water washing up on the shore. This was managed by adding a small amount of Snow Marker by Uchida and then heat set it to make it puff up.
Next, the elephant, castle, and pail were stamped with Copic marker friendly ink, Memento Tuxedo Black, then colored with Copic markers according to the guide below. When finished, they were cut out using the matching Beach Day die set.
The last step is assembly. First, the ‘water scene’ background was mounted to a Candy Necklace card stock panel. Then, the sentiment was stamped onto a strip of white cardstock and then cut out in a whimsical banner fashion. The banner was colored with Copic markers, BG0000 and BG01. A border of dots was added with the .003 Mangaka pen and then stapled on with the tiny attacher.
This whole scene and Candy Necklace card stock panel were mounted onto a white card stock card base. The elephant, castle, and pail were added with foam tape.
At this point, I thought I was all done but to me, the ‘sea’ needed something… fish of course. I am no artist but I can manage a simple fish. I sketched them with the Zig Mangaka pen and colored them with Copic markers. I also stamped the ‘splashes’ onto cardstock and added Nuvo Sea Breeze Jewel Drops for dimension.
