A Mermazing Birthday Card

Hi,

It’s Ruri back with a “Mermazing Birthday” card. The card was created using the Neat & Tangled Mermazing stamp and die set. The mermaid is so cute and graceful I couldn’t resist making a card for one of my favorite little people.

The card base, when folded, is 4.75″ x 6″ and is made from Neenah Solar White cardstock. I had some Dina Wakley Mica Spray from Ranger that I was dying to try so I lightly spritzed the front of the card base with the Evergreen and Lapis Mica Sprays, then set aside.

I created a few layers with this card to give it interest. First, there is the aqua colored panel. It is 4.25″ x 5.625″. I adhered this panel directly to the card base using double-tack tape (see supply list).

The fun really began when I creating all the colored elements. First, I stenciled a piece of white cardstock using the Neat & Tangled Pentagon stencil and a bunch of Tim Holtz Distress Inks – oh, and a couple Memento inks for a touch of contrast. And of course, you know I love Copic coloring so the adorable mermaid and her fish friends I stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black on white cardstock and colored them with my Copics. Here is a quick rundown of the Copic markers I used for the mermaid: BG11, B21, RV34, Y17 and E95. The rest were used for the fishys. For a little extra sparkle, I outlined the mermaid tail with green and violet Wink of Stella glitter markers.

After the stenciled panel was dry, I made a scalloped frame by using the Lawn Fawn’s Scalloped Rectangle Stackables die set, adhered a clear piece of acetate to the back of the frame, then added foam tape all the way around the back of the frame. This created a ‘pocket’ for the shaker section and keeps the sequin from falling out.

To make the back of the shaker look like the sea creatures are floating in water, I used the evergreen and lapis mica sprays again and spritzed them on a piece of white cardstock, making the bottom of the panel darker and gradually lighter toward the top. The mica flakes make it so shimmery. I wished the pictures could show that off!

After the water panel was dry, I taped it down, with double-sided tape, to the aqua panel. Then the fish and seahorse were glued down and a few small pearls were added. The ‘bubbles’ were made by drawing round bubble circles and filling them with Glossy Accents.

After the Glossy Accents dots were dry, the Mermaid Tail Sequin Mix was piled in the center of the card. Next, the foam tape backing was removed from the back of the scalloped frame and adhere in place. Then, the cute mermaid was attached with foam tape to the lower corner and a starfish to the upper corner.lightly spritzed it with the mica spray and wrote “Happy Birthday”
