Hi Everyone,
Today it is all about colorful birds hanging out in their favorite place… their tree, of course! This card features the Birds of Paradise stamp set by My Favorite Things.
This card starts with a piece of watercolor paper. I began by stamping a bit of Cracked Pistachio, Peeled Paint and Broken China Distress Oxide ink on a piece of acrylic that I will use as my palette. I liberally spritzed each color with water, then spritzed the panel with water. Next, I splattered Cracked Pistachio and Peeled Paint randomly on the paper, letting it spread and move, then added splashes of Broken China. After the ink was dry, I stenciled on leaves and triangular shapes over the splatters using the same Cracked Pistachio and Peeled Paint, a sponge dauber and the Flower and Leaf stencil. (psst.. all supplies are list below)
Next, I stamped the birds, leaves, and flowers onto Neenah heavy white card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and began coloring with my Copic markers. To color the birds, I first Googled ‘Toucan birds’ so I could see just how they look. This gave me a good reference for colors as I went to town coloring the birds and foliage. A handy guide of the Copic markers used is below.
The original bird stamps have a branch the birds are sitting on. I decided to make that dimensional so I cut out the paper branch from the birds and replaced it with my own handmade branch that I created by rolling and twisting a strip of white paper, then coloring it with Copic markers to look like a branch.
To begin assembling the card, I used a piece of Marshmallow Chick card stock and stenciled the edges with Spiced Marmalade distress ink and the My Favorite Things Framework stencil. This panel was then mounted onto a white card base and the watercolor panel positioned and adhered on top using my ATG tape dispenser. The birds, flowers, leaves, and branch were all positioned and attached with glue or foam tape. (Hint: I glued on the branch with the Ultimate Super Glue, this stuff is AWESOME! It really sticks fast and dries clear.)
The sentiment was stamped onto white cardstock with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Hero Arts Detail Black embossing powder, then cut out with the flag die from the My Favorite Things Blueprint 28 Die-Namics set. Another stitched flag was cut from a teal scrap piece of paper and the ‘leaf’ was hand cut with another green scrap of paper.
The sentiment and teal flags and leaf were attached and translucent teal resin droplets were added for the finishing touch.
I hope you enjoyed this project. See you real soon.
