Paris Love Art Journal & Video

Hi Everyone,

A whole month has zipped by (can you believe it?) since we introduced Zinia Amoiridou of Abstract Inspirations. As mentioned, Zinia will be joining us every month for an art journal adventure. Zinia is a super talent in the world of art journaling and we are very excited to have her share her ideas and techniques with us all. Today you will see how she creates a dynamite background, full of texture and brings us a touch of Paris with the Paris Love clear stamp set by Penny Black. Paris Love & Zinia Amioridou

Hi there, Zinia here…

This spread ended up being way messier that I initially expected. I started off with some basic ideas in mind. First, I wanted to use some Shimmerz Dazzlerz texture paste to create a textured base for my background. I also wanted to punch out some vellum circles and stick them on the wet Dazzlerz.

So I did both steps. For my background, I mixed up a few of the Dazzlerz to create some extra shades and while the paint was still wet, I sprayed and splattered a piece of vellum with some Shimmerz sprays and cut 1’ circles out of it. (see video and supply list for all the Shimmerz colors used)

From there I just kept adding things without thinking it too much, letting the page lead the way. I added some definition to the vellum circles by dripping some Shimmerz paint below each one of them. As I put more and more color, I ended up covering the whole thing. I really don’t mind covering elements I intentionally added on my page. As I said I initially thought it would look great to have those spray splatters on the vellum but I ended up covering most of it. You shouldn’t be afraid to do that. Even if an idea is really good, maybe it won’t work for a specific page.

So, as I made my page darker with the purple paint, I decided to add some more white. Starting with some paste and moving on to some White Linen Dylusions paint, I kept adding white lines trying to create rough brush strokes to add extra texture.

I was about to leave the page as is but then I decided to add some elements to serve as focal points. I took the “Paris Love” stamp set by Penny Black and stamped a bunch of the images on some white tissue paper. I cut around the images and then stuck them on my page using some matte gel medium. Stamping on tissue paper is a great technique to incorporate stamp images on a rough background that is hard to stamp on. In my case, you can still see the edges of the paper cause the tissue paper I used was pretty thick and my background a bit dark but you can make it almost invisible if you apply it on a light background.
