Bee-utiful Friend

Bee-utiful Friend

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a charming card design featuring a few of the new goodies from Papertrey Ink. I love bees, so the Build-A-Bumblebee set was a must, along with the lovely Wildflower Wreath! Combined, these two sets were the stars of the show!

Let’s start with the Wildflower Wreath. It was stamped with an alcohol-friendly ink, such as Memento Tuxedo Black, then colored with just a few alcohol markers. The coordinating die cuts out every detail perfectly.

When the flowers were done, I moved on to the Build-A-Bee die set and cut out the parts for two bees from white cardstock, then, using an ink dauber, colored them with Buttercup yellow and Black ink. The wings were left white, then accented with a very pale blue alcohol marker.

Next was the background. I knew I wanted to use the Honeycomb cover plate by Papertrey Ink, but I also wanted it to give the feeling of honey in the comb. So, with that in mind, I cut out a white cardstock panel using the Honeycomb cover plate. Then, using a watercolor paper panel, I liberally spritzed the panel with water (the handy-dandy Spellbinder mister is awesome for this!).

The next step was to smoosh Buttercup, Sunflower, Honeycomb, and Clementine inks onto a panel of acetate, spritz it with the mister, then gently dab the ink onto the watercolor panel. This technique gives you a mottled look, perfect for honey-laden honeycomb!

After cutting a postage-edged panel from Oceanside blue cardstock, the ink-smooshed panel was next. The honeycomb panel was backed with foam squares and added on top.

The Wildflower wreath was mounted on top, along with the bees and a small scalloped circle (Lawn Fawn – see supply list below), with the sentiment stamped with black ink.

The only thing left was a few champagne drops applied to the front for a little more dimension and sparkle!

The card was done, and I am so happy to see my lovely bees!

I hope you liked it too and that it hopefully gave you a little spark of inspiration!
