Peace On Earth

Hi Creative Friends,

I am popping in with another way you can use the beautiful Adorning Trees stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink. Very often, I make very detailed cards. But lately, I am enjoying the simple elegance of card designs such as this one. Another real bonus is that they are super fast to make so if you need something in a hurry, but make a statement, then this might do the trick.

The star of this card design is the focal point, the tree… so let’s start there.

I cut three of the large tree from heavy white card stock, two tree trunks (one white and one gold glitter paper), and two stars, again one white and one gold glitter paper. Next, I sandwiched two white tree outlines together with some glue. I did the same for the stars and the tree trunk.

I mounted slim strips of foam tape to the back of the tree outline, peeled off the release tape, and starting at the top, wound the gold metallic cord around the trees just as you would if it were garland (going from left to right). The foam tape grabs the thread and holds it in place while you do this.

Once I was at the bottom, I trimmed off the cord and started again at the top, and repeated the process but this time reversed direction, so going from right to left. When I got to the bottom, I again trimmed off the cord.

Next, I added a thin string of glue to the foam strip and glued the remaining tree outline to the back. This secures the cord in place and gives a smooth backing to adhere to the card base. The star was glued to the top of the tree and the trunk to the bottom too.

Using a 4.25″ x 7″ (folded) white card base, I mounted a slightly smaller Hawaiian Shores card stock panel to the front. I arranged the tree on the front to get an idea where I would stamp and heat emboss the sentiment. Once I determined its placement, I removed the tree, treated the area with anti-static powder, stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink, and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.

While I was embossing the sentiment, I could have gone ahead and stamped and embossed the sprinkling of ‘stars’ (actually they are dots) to create the sky. There are stamps for this included in the stamp set. But instead, I mounted the tree to the front of the card, then punched itty bitty circles from gold glitter paper with a tiny hole punch, and glued them on.

To finish the card, I added white jewels for the ornaments. These jewels, along with the glitter ‘sky’ give the tree an extra bit of sparkle!

I love the background color I choose. It is bright and fresh. I have included the Papertrey Hawaiian Shores (the one I used) and Brights cardstock collection in the supply list below. You could choose any color from this pack and it would be beautiful. So, let your imagination go wild and give it a whirl!
