Up, Up and Away Balloon Birthday Card

Hello Everyone,

This card is sooo fun and playful….it just screams PARTY!  Let’s get to it!

But before we do,  be sure to check out the way to enter our GIVEAWAY – details are at the bottom of this post – but hurry, winner will be chosen on June 26.

This card was made in the  5″ x 7″ size but you can easily adapt it to any size card you would like… and just a note, as always there is no need to jot down all the supplies while reading.  They are all listed at the end.

To start,  I used a purple glitter paper, yellow polka dot and diagonal stripes from Simple Stories Carpe Diem paper pack and of course the Neenah Solar White 110lb. cardstock for the base, plus a scrap of black card stock. Oh, I almost forgot…and a small piece of watercolor paper for the balloons and a small piece of sturdy vellum.

Stamp:

  1. Using the balloon set from the Hats Off stamp set by Avery Elle, permanent black ink and watercolor paper, stamp at least 6 balloons (stamp more if you have the time – it is always nice to have a few on hand)
  2. I used a small scrap of black card stock and cut it into a rectangle.  Then, wrote in white ink “birthday” and set aside to dry.  Or, of course, you can use your favorite ‘birthday’ stamp and stamp the word on a rectangular banner-like piece of black card stock with Versamark and heat emboss with white embossing powder. Good choices for this are:  So Much to Say by Lawn Fawn or Let Us Celebrate by Impression Obsession.
  3. Cut a 4″ x 6″ piece of white card stock. Stamp the white card panel with Cover-a-card Gradation with black permanent ink

Coloring:

  1. Watercolor the balloons whatever colors make you happy – set aside to dry.

Cutting:

  1. Cut a piece of glitter paper, one piece of patterned paper (this is the yellow polka dot) and a piece of diagonal striped card stock.  All these will be cut slightly smaller than the front of the card…..so, in this case, it would be 6″ x 4″ – set aside.
  2. Using your die cutting machine, cut one each of the “Happy” by Neat and Tangled die from the glitter paper and black cardstock.  Also, using the Clouds die set, cut 4 or 5 clouds from the vellum.
  3. Cut out the balloons with the matching die set of the Hats-Off die set. Then, coat  cover each balloon with Glossy Accents – let dry.  (2 hints: it takes awhile for Glossy Accents to dry, but it is worth the wait.  Hint 2: be sure to cut out the balloons before the glossy accent treatment, otherwise the die cutting machine make mar the finish  – don’t ask me how I know (haha).

Assemble:

  1. Layer the colored panels on top of the white card base, placing them at an angle and opposite of one another.
  2. When you get to the Gradation layer, pop it up using Fun Foam or dimensional foam tape.
  3. Position and adhere the clouds.
  4. Add dimensional squares to back of balloons
  5. Tie black heavy thread to each balloon, making sure to leave a long ‘tail’
  6. Position the 2 “Happy” die cutting pieces to your liking
  7. Place the ‘birthday’ underneath the Happy

For the final touch, add some silver star sequin.

Viola! You have finished your card
