Beautiful Autumn

Beautiful Autumn

Hi Creative Friends,

We have been showcasing holiday card designs to tickle your creative juices. But today, we are going to pause and enjoy the beautiful Autumn season that is happening right now. To help with that, we are sharing a card design using a stunning stamp and die set by Penny Black called Harvest Wishes.

Shauna here, I am going to take it from here…

This Penny Black stamp and die set is so unassuming that it is easy to overlook. But you shouldn’t! It is packed with a ton of Autumn beauty. It features a Fall wreath and a bountiful cornucopia, plus the matching die set to cut them out perfectly.

I started with a piece of cold-pressed paper mounted in my stamp positioner, along with both the cornucopia and wreath stamp. I used waterproof ink like VersaClair Fallen Leaves ink to ink and stamp the images.

From there, I started my coloring/painting. I used a bunch of distress inks. Since there were many, I used the ink cubes. They are so handy in their small size! Here is a key to the inks used.

  • Wreath: lightly used Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive, Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Peacock Feathers, Ground Espresso
  • Cornucopia: Ground Espresso, Rusty Hinge, Wild Honey – Peeled Paint and Peacock Feathers for the tiny leaves around the edge
  • Flowers: Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Rusty Hinge, Ground Espresso, and a yellow and brown Karin watercolor marker to brighten the colors
  • Pumpkins: Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, and orange Karin watercolor marker for accent – Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Candied Apple, and Yellow Karin watercolor marker for accent
  • Apples: Candied Apple, Aged Mahogany

Now that the coloring was done, the wreath and the cornucopia were cut out using the matching dies. The middle of the wreath was ink blending with Wild Honey and Ripe Persimmon, then everything was set aside.

Next, using a cold-pressed watercolor panel and the wreath die, I cut out the wreath but saved the wreath cut-out so that I could stack and glue it with the painted wreath. I added another wreath cut-out to the back to pop it up just a little more.

The cut-out panel was mounted onto a slightly larger watercolor paper card base. The stacked wreaths were added, along with the ink-blending middle.

Before the cornucopia was mounted with foam squares, I stamped the sentiment from the Penny Black Letting Go stamp set using Spiced Cider ink (see supply list below) and my stamp positioner.

Finally, the cornucopia was pressed into place for my final step.

That completes my project for today. I hope you enjoyed it!
