I am sharing a Betterpress letterpress holiday card. I LOVE letterpress. It has a classic, clean look of real specialness so you can imagine this wonderful Color Mix Joy press plate by Spellbinders was right up my alley.
Spellbinders was quite ingenious when they developed a simple way to make a letterpress project using multiple colors. The Color Mix Joy press plate is one of these plates. They made it super easy to do by providing a reusable registration guide to ensure perfect alignment. There are only a few hints to making sure it comes out perfectly.
First, I taped down the grid plate that comes with the BetterPress system to the base plate so there isn’t any ‘chatter’ or movement of the base plate. Next, I positioned and taped the registration placement guide on top so I could follow the alignment lines. From there, I started with the J and Y and matched them to the placement guide. Next, they were inked with Honeysuckle and Eucalyptus ink (respectively). I was extra careful to not touch either letter with the other color ink. The magnetic plate was placed on top and then ran through my die-cutting machine.
Hint: make sure the J and Y do not shift and are directly over the guide before adding the magnetic plate and running through the die-cutting machine.
Next, I removed the J and the Y and added the O and the sentiment. The O was inked with Poppy red ink and I used the Spellbinders BetterPress black ink for the sentiment. It was again run through my die-cutting machine to complete this panel.
For the background, I used an A2-sized Candy Hearts pink panel and stenciled a design on top using one of the stencils from the Concord & 9th – Kristina Werner Berries and Leaves stencil set (I love this set!) and Poppy ink.
The background panel was attached to the front of an A2-sized card base. Next, the JOY panel was lightly trimmed and added on top to call this card done!
