Sending Love

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing the sweetest card design! It features the most adorable cat from the Penny Black Every Which Way stamp set. This set has several super cute critters (I am sure to use more critters in future projects). For this card design, I chose this little Valentine cat perched in an envelope.

I love clean and simple cards. though admittedly I often choose something more complicated. But today, I managed to keep it simple.

I started with an A2-white card stock card base and a panel of Spellbinders BetterPress Double-Thick Porcelain card stock.

Using the panel and the new Perfectly Coiled Circle hot foil plate by Papertrey Ink (see supply list below). Normally, you would hot foil with this die but I am using it today to emboss the pattern into the paper. To do that, I moistened the paper on both sides using a Spellbinders Mister and then ran it through my die-cutting machine. In hindsight, I should have used my BetterPress system to blind emboss the pattern. The BetterPress system is a nifty little tool and it gives great results!

Moving on, the panel was added to the front of the card base and set aside for now.

Next, I mounted the cat stamp and hot-pressed watercolor paper in my stamp positioner. I wanted no-line coloring, so I stamped the entire stamp with Tea Dye distress ink and then started painting. I used Saltwater Taffy and Worn Lipstick for the envelope, Rusty Hinge for the cat, and a black Tombow pen for his stripes, eyes, mouth, and whiskers. Then, I crisped up the lines of the envelope with Candied Apple and restamped the cat with Rusty Hinge.

Hint: for this technique, don’t remove your stamp and paper from your stamp positioner while you paint that way you can always go back and restamp.

To get all the detail from the stamp there is, I used a few Tombow pens. You have heard me talk often about the versatility of Tombow pens. They are really effective for coloring in tight areas. I rub the ink onto the stamp using the brush tip.

So, I used a black pen for details on the cat, but I also used a red and green one for the lines of the flower and a pink one for the cat’s nose. Once done, I fussy cut out the cute little motif and added foam squares to the back.

For a little extra pizazz, I cut a small heart from the Hearts Around die by Penny Black and colored it with Worn Lipstick and Candied Apple distress ink. I also stamped my sentiment (from the Paper Hugs sentiment set by Penny Black) onto a strip of the double-thick cardstock. I used Poppy ink from Concord & 9th.

To finish, the cat was mounted, along with the heart and sentiment.

Thanks for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed this sweet card design!
