Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for joining me for another Halloween fright! I am cramming in my last (well, maybe not my last) Halloween card. I don’t know what it is about Halloween, I always want to do another project. I wish I could bottle up the mojo I seem to conjure at Halloween time so I could use it in those lean mojo days!!
This card brings together a little of everything: a little die cutting from Penny Black die sets, a little mask and ink blending and a little Copic coloring. Let’s start with the background.
To create the background, a mask for the moon was cut from full-adhesive post-it notes and a circle die. This cut circle was placed where I thought a full Fall moon would be to protect that area while I color the sky. The sky was blended with distress oxide inks: Faded Jeans, Broken China with Black Soot on the edges. The mask was then removed, revealing a beautiful white moon. I lightly colored the moon with Antique Linen and Fossilized Amber distress oxide inks. I allowed the Antique Linen to overlap onto the dark sky to give a more glowy look. The sky was lightly splattered with water from a clean, wet paintbrush and quickly blotted with a paper towel.
Next, I cut from Bristol paper a jagged rock hill. This was done freehand because you really don’t have to be too precise. The hill was colored with Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and a little Black Soot and attached to the bottom of the sky panel. (For a quick addition, I cut freehand the tombstones and cross and colored the same, accented with a white gel pen)
I have always liked the Haunted Hollow set with the house, tree and fence and the new Witches Duo with a cat as a sidekick makes a great addition. All the elements from these die sets were cut in Licorice Twist black cardstock, along with borrowing a few bats from the Carta Bella Happy Halloween set. You can’t see it in the pictures but these pieces were randomly inked with Delicata Black Shimmer ink to get shine and shimmer.
I started putting the pieces together with first a Whirly Pop blue cardstock card base that had been tinged with Black Soot distress ink on the edges. A Marshmallow Chick yellow panel was added to the top. Then, the sky and hill background were attached to the top and the house (with a piece of yellow paper attached to the back was mounted with foam tape, and the fence, tombstones, witch, tree, and bats were added.
The pumpkins were created the same as in the last Halloween card to add a little pop of color and interest. If you missed it, you can view it here. I didn’t have a scary Trick or Treat stamp so I hand-lettered “Trick or Treat” with a #01 Zig Mangaka pen and colored with the same Copic marker colors as the pumpkin with a little Vintage Photo distress ink smudged on the edges.
The final bits were to add white circles for stars to the sky with McCaffery’s white ink and the “eyes” in the hillside were inked in with the same ink and then colored with a yellow Copic marker when dry.
Whew! We got through that together! Thanks so much for hanging in there!
