Vintage Happy Birthday Bird

Vintage Happy Birthday Bird

Hi Crafty Friends,

I love birds. I have bird feeders everywhere in my garden and enjoy watching them throughout the day… so of course, this little Feathered Bird mini stamp and die from Papertrey Ink, an Ink To Paper Collection was perfect. He strikes quite the pose!

To add to the beauty, I have combined Vintage Postage stamp and Mother’s Love stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink to make this charming card design.

As always, I began creating all the base pieces first by cutting out a white background using the Postage Stamp Frames. I just love this die set. It makes a lovely border with a postage edge and pierced inner-frame.

Next, I chucked a piece of Soft Stone card stock in my stamp positioner, along with the Vintage Postage stamp and stamped it with Papertrey Ink’s Soft Stone ink. I used the stamp positioner so I could stamp it a few times to get a good impression. When done, I trimmed the panel so it would fit perfectly within the pierced frame on the Postage Frame panel I cut earlier. Before going on, I stamped the two sentiments using Just Sentiments: Tagged and white embossing powder.

Now it was time to create a few more elements before assembly. With a scrap of watercolor paper, I stamped the bird. It has a few pieces to it to allow different colors for the body and wings. I love combining colors of inks so as always, I used a combination of Papertrey inks for the main body, like Harvest Gold, Sweet Blush, and Cocoa Bean. If you would like to see the technique I use to combine inks, check out this video here or here.

For the wing, I used Cocoa Bean and Dark Chocolate. The accent stamp for the wing and breast were stamped with Autumn Rose. The bird was then cut out with the matching die.

I used the twig wreath from Mother’s Love stamp set and stamped it on white cardstock with Dark Chocolate and stamped a few of the leaves in the set with Ocean Tides and Olive Twist. They were then cut out with the matching dies. By the way, I also cut out a few sprigs of berries and colored them with R32, R35, and R39 Copic markers.

It was time to assemble. With a Sweet Blush card stock card base, I mounted the white postage frame on top. The Vintage Postage panel was added, with a piece of foam on the back to pop it up. The wreath was next.

Since the Vintage stamp has an oval opening in the center, I wanted the wreath a little more oval. To do this, I cut the wreath in a spot where the bird would be mounted, then overlapped it by about a 1/4″ to force it into a slightly more oval shape, then glued it together.

Before adding the wreath, I made a white cardstock center for it, blended Sweet Blush and Pale Peony ink on the edges, and mounted it in the center. Next came the wreath, popped up with foam tape, it was pressed into place.

Now the design was nearly done. All I had to do is add the cute bird and a few of the sprigs and leaves.

And there we have it… a lovely birthday greeting with help from Papertrey Ink, an Ink To Paper collection!

  1. Gorgeous card! 😁 What refreshes me is talking with the Lord and just pouring out my heart to Him. Also doing some crafting. Like when I finish a card and can’t believe I was able to make my idea happen.

  2. I love this card Shauna! Birds are so interesting & some are gorgeous. I like the small wreath as well as the vintage look of the overall card. Just beautiful! What refreshes me? I hope this is the place to answer that question, as I couldn’t find a special post about it on your blog, but perhaps I didn’t look far enough back. Singing refreshes my soul & my heart, whether it’s contemporary music or worship songs. It energizes me in a way nothing else can. Mind you, if I want to find peace I go to the ocean.
