Dreamy Forest Scene

Dreamy Forest Scene

Hi Creative Friends,

I am sharing a dreamy forest scene by using only one stamp, Dressed In Snow, by Penny Black. I love the trees in this stamp. Using this stamp, you can make it a winter scene, just as the name of the stamp suggests. Or, you can just make it a magical forest scene as I have. Either way, it is a beautiful stamp with majestic trees!

You can use any medium you like to paint the background but I love to watercolor. So, I started with hot-pressed watercolor paper and mounted the panel and stamp in my stamp positioner, then stamped the image using Versafine Black Onyx ink. I made sure I got a good stamped image by stamping twice before removing it from the stamping platform.

Once the scene was stamped and dry, I masked off a circle for the moon by painting on some masking fluid.  Then let it dry before I went on to paint.

Now ready to paint, I brushed on clean, clear water to the entire sky. Then, smooched some distress inks onto my glass mat (see below).  Starting at the bottom, where the bottom of the trees and fence were, I added Picked Raspberry and a dash of Festive Berries in the center to create a deeper pinkish-red color. On the edges, I added a mixture of Villainous Potion and Chipped Sapphire.

As I worked up the panel, I added Mustard Seed in the middle and continued with the Chipped Sapphire and Villainous Potion on the sides until I got to the open sky, where I switched to mostly a mixture of Chipped Sapphire and a tiny bit of Peeled Paint. I was careful to leave some of the sky areas without any paint to create a more cloudy appearance.

Once I was satisfied with the watercolor and it was completely dry, I rubbed off the masking fluid and stamped the sentiment,  from the Thinking of You stamp by Penny Black.

The panel was then mounted onto a slightly larger black panel, then onto a larger white card base to create a white border.

The card was done. It was quick and easy, and most importantly, I got to watercolor a bit – YAY!
