Happy Haunting

Happy Haunting

Hi Creative Friends,

I simply can’t resist making Halloween cards. I don’t know what it is other than the fun of making a spooky, eerie sky and moon, not to mention bats flying all around!

So here is my latest. I used a few of my very favorite Penny Black Halloween stamps: Halloween Gathering and Spooky Fun.

Before starting this card, I gathered a few supplies together –  bristol paper panel, masking paper, a bunch of distress inks (check out supply list below), and blending brushes and/or daubers.

First step was to mount the house stamp and bristol panel in my stamp positioner, then stamped it using Versafine Black Onyx ink. This ink is waterproof so it won’t smear or smudge when adding paint or ink.

I also stamped the house onto masking paper, then carefully cut it out and placed it over top the house on the panel. I also cut out a round circle for the moon using circle dies, then mounted it to the panel.

On to the coloring of the background… I started with a thin layer of Worn Lipstick over all the sky, then added Faded Jeans on the edges and Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade near the moon.

I continued adding layers of ink and increasing the intensity with Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot on the edges with splashes of Villainous Potion. A little Wild Honey and Vintage Photo was added near the edge of the hill.

When the sky was nearly done, I removed the round circle mask and used Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade to color. For more detail to the moon, I used the Tim Holtz Moon Mask stencils.

Next, I removed the mask over the house and colored it with a handful of Copic markers (W1, W5, E23, E89, YG95, Y15, Y38) . The hill was ink blended with Vintage Photo and Black Soot, using an ink dauber.

I stamped bats with Versafine Black Onyx ink and added a couple of ghosts using Lawn Fawn’s Yeti white ink.

A border was created using Penny Black’s Dark City die and dark gray card stock. I ink blended Black Soot and a dash of Vintage Photo to the border, then stamped the sentiment using the same Yeti ink as before.

To put the whole thing together, I mounted the scene panel to a Candy Corn card stock card base, then added the border and a black card stock tree that I had cut using the Impression Obsession’s Wide Tree die. Oh, I almost forgot… must add a dangling spider for good measure!

There we have it… a spooky Halloween card filled with all the fun and eerie elements. I hope you enjoyed it!
