Hi there,
We are sooooo excited to show off our new Alexandra Renke dies. There are three fabulous stars, though we are only using two for this project, and adorable Christmas icons like a gingerbread man and candy cane. The card is simple to make but the beautiful dies and paper from Alexandra Renke create an elegant design when finished!
As an extra bonus, these dies make wonderful ‘bows’ for gifts. Check out the image below.
As I mentioned earlier, this is an easy card. Mostly, it is just a little die cutting and assembly. So, let’s get started!
To begin, I created a square card base from cream cardstock, then cut a square panel the size of the front of the card base from “Scarlett” cardstock and another square panel, very slightly smaller, of the “Merry Christmas Gifts” paper. I trimmed a 1/4″ from one side of the patterned paper, then adhered it to the Scarlett panel so that the 1/4″ Scarlett paper border was showing on one side and a tiny border was showing on the other three sides. The completed panel was then attached to the front of the card base.
Next, I cut two different stars from two different papers. First, I cut the “Star Big” from Mud Grid paper (don’t let the name scare you – it is beautiful!) and the second star, “Crystal Heart Star” from Red Point paper.
One of the beauties of these star dies is that you can easily fold them to create a dimensional star. For the big star, I folded it in an accordion or fan fashion. The Crystal star I creased down the center of each point and crimped it a little to give it a little more flair, then stacked it on top of the big star. Next, I threaded a large needle with the burlap string and entered through the top of the center of the two stars, then back up to the front. With the two loose ends in front, I tied a bow in the center.
Now, I cut one candy cane and two gingerbread men. I could have cut them from colored paper but decided I wanted to match the colors in the paper as much as possible so I cut them from Neenah white cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. I used R29 for the candy cane and W1 and W3 for the gingerbread men.
With the Christmas candy and gingerbread men done, I adhered them to the strings of the bow, then the final touch… added the completed star/bow assembly to the card.
And there you have it! Finished in a hurry but packed with an elegant punch!
Here is another great way to use the Alexandra Renke Star dies. This ‘bow’ was made using the same cardstock as in the card and the Star Big, Star Little and Crystal Heart Star dies.
