Hi there,
This card is perfect for any occasion. Something in life alwats comes up and this card can be easily tailored to suit your needs.
The card is simple and easy to create. The flower is die cut from Penny Black’s Joyful Die Set and colored by using the wonderful spritz’s from Shimmerz Paints.
True to my usual course, I like to get all the supplies ready in the beginning, then color and assemble. This card was no exception.
This is a 5.5″ x 7″ card (I like this size – it makes it seem more special). So, without further adieu I will quickly list the steps. I will also list all the supplies for you at the end….just a note, I used watercolor color throughout this card.
Cutting and Preparing:
- Cut a piece of watercolor paper 11″ x 7″ and score it down the middle of the long side to make the 5.5″ x 7″ size.
- Cut a 4.75″ x 6.25″ piece of watercolor paper, set aside for painting later
- Cut 2 pieces of 4.5″ x 6″ piece of watercolor paper, then die cut a rectangle out of only one of these pieces. The remaining piece will be the base for the flower.
- Using the Joyful Die Set from Penny Black, cut the flower from watercolor paper, of course.
Painting:
I love the Shimmerz Paints. They come in a couple of different ways…. in the little jars or pots or the spritz bottles. All the colors I used come in spritz bottles. This makes it super convenient to apply watercolor paint. And remember Shimmerz Paints all have a beautiful shimmery element so they are just beautiful all on their own, without further embellishment.
- The flower comes in two pieces, making it really convenient for coloring the stem and the flower separate. I spritzed the stem with Bamboo Leaf Spritz, dried it with a heat tool, then spritzed only the stem and the lower part of the leaves with Palm Reader Vibez. Set aside to dry.
- Spritz the flower part with Cotton Candy Spritz and Sweet Heart Vibez and then covering the petals, leaving only the center of the flower exposed, spritz withCaribbean Sunset Spritz to create a darker center.
- Water color the 4.75 x 6.25″ piece of paper by spritzing on the Palm Reader Vibez watercolor. This makes a beautiful background with gold accents.
- Next, using the 4.5″ x 6″ piece, with no rectangle cut-out. Spritz with Jeni B Blue Vibez. I used a short disposable plastic cup with the bottom cut out to create the circle. I just spritzed inside the cut, making a circle of beautiful, shimmery blue. There is a slight bit of over spray but that adds to its naturalness.
- Finally, by removing the top and revealing the spray tube, I created some splatters with Palm Reader Vibez.
When everything is dry, then it is time to assemble. If you are like me, I hurried it along by drying the paint with a heat tool). But a word of caution, don’t follow in my footsteps and stay too long in one place on the paper and scorch the paper — not that I have ever done that (haha).
Assemble:
This is a simple one to assemble.
- Simply mount the green background paper onto the card base, centering it.
- Next, mount the piece with the spritzed circle onto the green background.
- Mount the rectangle cut out piece on top of the piece with the spritzed circle
- Finally, add the flower by adding dimensional foam pieces onto the back of the flower pieces so it pops up, and allows the stems to extend over the top of the rectangle cut out piece.
- At the end, I cut a scrap piece of watercolor paper and hand-lettered a sentiment, deckled the edges and added a little of the Palm Leaf Vibez spray on the edges by using a toothpick. You can stamp your sentiment directly onto the card or make a separate piece like I did, if you prefer.
Viola! It’s done
