Beautiful Branches Two Ways by Heather Telford

HI Crafty Friends,

Heather Telford is spoiling us today by treating us to two card designs. She is using the beautiful stamp set, Beautiful Branches by Concord & 9th.

Heather can always work magic with her colors and stamps. Check out how she does it so you can create your own beautiful masterpiece.

Hi there, it’s great to be on the Foiled Fox blog again with you all. Thank you so much for getting involved in the gratitude week recently; I loved reading your comments and learning a little about the lovely readers who come and hang out here.

Today’s cards are both made with the very versatile ‘Beautiful Branches’ set from Concord & 9th. The Foiled Fox team sent this to me months ago and I have been remiss in not inking it up sooner. I have created a fall and a winter card to share today but I could have shared a summer and yes, a spring card if I had pulled it out earlier.

I have used Catherine Pooler inks for most of the stamping with a distress ink and a Versafine completing the lineup. My method was almost the same for both cards. I splattered masking fluid over two cold pressed watercolor paper panels then stamped the bare branch twice in Versafine vintage sepia ink. Versafine is a waterproof pigment ink which was perfect as I didn’t want to blend the branch with water.

For the Fall card, I chose a round leaf and inked it with two inks each time I stamped. For the darker leaves I used CP green tea and spruce inks, for the lighter leaves I used shea butter and green tea inks. I inked the leaf with the lighter ink first then rolled the edge in the darker ink then stamped. I stamped first, second and third generation images to get variation in the depth of color. Once stamped I used a brush to blend each leaf with water. I let the leaves dry before overlapping one leaf with another. The berries are stamped in juniper mist ink then blended with water also. I added green tea splatter over the panel by first pressing the ink pad on my glass mat, adding a little water then splattering on the stamped panel with a paintbrush. Once the panel was dry I rubbed off the masking fluid. The sentiment is from the same set stamped in Versafine majestic blue.

To create the Christmas card I started the same way but chose a narrow leaf and inked it with spruce and juniper mist inks. Once again I stamped once for a dark image, a second and a third time (without re-inking) to get paler images then blended each one with water so the ink filled the shape of the leaf. I switched to festive berries distress ink for the berries and splattered with juniper mist ink. Once dry I rubbed off the masking fluid to reveal white dots and splotches meant to look like snow.

At this point, I decided the panel needed a little shimmer or shine so I splattered with embossing fluid from an ’emboss it dabber’ then sprinkled silver embossing powder over the fluid. The result is a subtle spray of shiny silver dots over most of the panel. The sentiment from C&9 ‘very merry sentiments’ is stamped in Juniper Mist. For an extra pop of color, I cut a strip of red cardstock to border one side then attached both to a cream card base.

I will definitely be using the rest of the stamps in this set to create blossom branches and other seasonal panels. Do you have a set you love to use all year round?
