Romantic Butterfly Card

Romantic Butterfly Card

Hello again,

I am back with a romantic butterfly card, using the Penny Black’s Delicate Wings Creative Die as the focal point. This card is multi-layered with liberal use of the beautiful Shimmerz Paints.  They were perfect for this since they have so much shimmer and beauty!

I also made a matching envelope simply with the Envelope Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers.  I just love this board.  It makes making any size envelope a SNAP!  With the help of a complimentary butterfly stamp  and Antique Linen Distress Ink, a few stampings on the envelope and a flourished recipient’s name on the envelope too, you have a very special personalized piece of art from you!

For instructions and a complete supply list see below.

BUTTERFLY CARD-2
TO CREATE THIS CARD:

I started with a 5.5″ x 11″ piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, cut it down on the long side to 5.5″ and scored it in the middle, making a 5,5″ x 5.5″ card base.  Next cut a 4.5″ x 4.5″ dark pink cardstock, spritzed it with some complimentary colors of Shimmerz Paints for accent (full list of supplies provided below), set it aside to dry.

Working on the top layer, use a 4″ x 4″ piece of watercolor paper, stamping with Stazon Jet Black ink, stamp the flowers from the Best Mom Stamp Set by Altenew in the lower right corner.  Watercolor the leaves and flowers with Shimmerz paints. I used Cotton Candy Spritz, Sweet Heart Vibez and a touch of Carribean Sunset Spritz for the flowers and Palm Reader and Bamboo Leaf for the leaves.

After the paint was dry, I created a mask for the flowers and leaves so they were protected when I spritzed the whole paper several times with a few Shimmerz Paints, starting with  Chance of Rain Spritz and Jeni B Blue Vibez, then accents with Deep Blue Sea Vibez and a hint of Egg Noggin’.  To provide more depth, I added random light stampings with Distress Ink Antique Linen and the BG Romantic Script Background by My Favorite Things, with final black ink splatters for added accent.

ROMANTIC BUTTERFLY-3
Next, with a piece of watercolor paper, I die cut the butterfly base and overlay from the Penny Black’s Delicate Wings Creative Die, spritzed the base with the lighter blue Shimmerz Paints (Chance of Rain Vibez) used earlier and the covered the butterfly overlay with Black Soot Distress Ink and then accented it with Wink of Stella Brush Glitter Pen (clear).  After all was dry, I used Disco Ball Stickles Glitter Glue to accent the edges- now let’s set the butterfly aside for now. We will come back to it later.

On a separate piece of watercolor paper, I stamped  the same flowers, using  the stamp by Altenew again and painted them with the same Shimmerz Paints as before.  After they were dry, I cut 3 of the flowers out, curled the edges, glued them over the stamped flowers on the top layer and added Xmas Red Stickles Glitter Glue to each center of the flowers for added dimension.

ROMANTIC BUTTERFLY-4

With a scrap of dark pink paper used earlier, I die cut, using the Punchinella die by Neat & Tangled, spritzed it a few times with Shimmerz paint, set aside.

For the sentiment, using a scrap piece of 40lb. vellum, I drew a banner with McCaffery’s black ink and then penned “Happy Birthday”.  If you don’t want to hand make this banner, you could easily use a banner of your liking.  A few suggestions are:  Bannerific by Lawn Fawn or a great one is Sketch Banner by Tim Holtz.

To assemble, I added foam sheet to the back of the dark pink base layer for added dimension, then adhered with my ATG tape runner, the top layer (the one with the flowers) on top of the dark pink. Next, I adhered these layers to the white card base.

Finally, position and glue the butterfly in place with the Punchinella paper we created earlier, nestled it underneath the butterfly. Next, I tucked pieces of a paper doily, colored lightly with Antique Linen Distress Ink, under the corners of the pink and top layer. By the way, if you don’t have a paper doily on hand, die cut one from the Rose Doily Cutting Die. It works great too!

Add a few Diamond Gem accents and…..

Viola, you’re donelaurel strand
