Two Adorable Cards with Lawn Fawn Critter Concert by Rosali

Hi Crafty Friends,

Rosali is sharing two very adorable cards today. Both of them feature the new Critter Concert stamp and dies set by Lawn Fawn. Take a look how she does it below.  Then,  pop over to her blog for more inspiration and fun.

Hello everyone!

I am happy to be back on The Foiled Fox’s blog today and I brought you two cards using Lawn Fawn’s Critter Concert! I really like the music theme of this set in combination with the cute critters ☺.

I had this idea in my head from the beginning to do some emboss resist with music notes for the background – which means that you heat emboss the note images and then do some kind of coloring on top of them. Now, over the last couple of months, I really loved doing ink blending with Distress Oxide Inks. They blend so easy and beautiful on Neenah or Watercolor cardstock that it has become my go-to technique for using these inks. But I have also seen people use Distress Oxides for water coloring and I was really curious if I would like it and how the colors would look when you mix those inks with a bit of water on your brush. So I decided to make TWO cards and do a comparison of emboss resist techniques – one with ink blending and one with water coloring, both using the same colors of Distress Oxides.

Here’s how I made my cards:

  1. First I took two pieces of cardstock – Neenah 110 lb for ink blending and Ranger Watercolor cardstock for water coloring. I stamped all the small music notes from the Critter Concert set several times onto both panels using Versamark and heat embossed them with white embossing powder.
  2. To do my ink blending I masked off a strip on my panel of Neenah with Post-It Tape. I used Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxides for ink blending and made sure to go over the overlapping area with the first color again to get a smooth blending. For the water coloring, I smooshed the same three ink pads onto my craft mat and picked them up with a larger brush (I used a size 8). To intensify the colors and get some more texture/harsh lines I added a second layer of ink after letting the first layer dry.
  3. I die cut both background panel using a large stitched rectangle die from Lawn Fawn. For my card base I chose a white and a teal one and glued my backgrounds onto them.
  4. I stamped and die cut all the adorable animals from the stamp set and also some accessories and colored them with my favorite two-step coloring method: first I used Copic markers and for the nooks and crannies I added details with colored pencils on top! I also drew on some highlights with a white gel pen. These are the Copic colors that I used:

  1. I adhered all critters and a few additional stamped music notes using Scotch mounting tape. For the fox, I doubled up on foam tape to make it appear as if he is standing a little in front of owl and raccoon.
  2. I stamped my sentiments on “Everyday Sentiment Banners” from Lawn Fawn and heat embossed them in white onto the black cardstock. I used mounting tape again to adhere the banners to my cards.
  3. Lastly, I added a few Nuvo Crystal Drops as finishing embellishments.

I like both cards and can’t really choose a favorite. 😀  Watercoloring makes the Oxide Inks appear a bit softer and muted – so it really depends on what look you are going for. I personally will definitely continue using my favorite ink blending but also do the water coloring with Oxides again because I really liked it!

What about you, do you have a favorite from these two cards?

Have an amazing day and see you real soon!

Rosali
